Feat. Football

Hello,

The start of the year has been very exciting. I am happy to announce that I have started working with Pro Sports Images, photographing editorial content for the press and on commission. I have photographed dance galleries at both Rambert and Sadler’s Wells, and I have had multi-talented musician, Alex Paton in the studio for a portrait shoot.

First off I headed to the Rambert studios to photograph In the Making 2018. This programme showcased 7 works choreographed by company dancers in addition to Rambert's choreographic fellow, Julie Cunningham. The performance also coincided with the Lumiere London festival. Rambert took part in the light festival collaborating with artist David Ward. David worked with the dancers photographing the soles of their feet creating the body of work, Light on Their Feet, which was projected on the side of Rambert HQ throughout the festival. Next I was joined by Alex Paton in our home studio. Alex is a multi-talented musician who plays an array of instruments in addition to writing music for films and dance. Alex was a pleasure to work with, and we were all very happy with the results. Click here to see more from the shoot.

After, I was off to Sadler’s Wells for their annual Sadler’s Wells Sampled programme, which includes an eclectic mix of dance including the likes of Ballet, Contemporary through to Breaking and Flamenco.  It was a great opportunity to capture a range of dance styles in one evening.

Throughout February I have been attending and photographing at sports fixtures on behalf of Pro Sports Images. Currently I have been photographing Football games, covering Premier League through to League 2 games. It has been fantastic covering the national sport, and I am very happy to see my images being published in the press.

Hitting the Gym

Hello,

Over the past month I have been incredibly busy. I have been working on various projects, and photographing many different things and not just dance. There is too much to write about in a single blog post, so I will narrow it down and give you my honourable mentions!

Sam Oldham preparing for the Rings at the World Cup of Gymnastics at the O2, London.

Recently, it has been very much about Artistic Gymnastics! I was delighted to be accredited to photograph at two major gymnastics competitions featuring some of Britain’s Olympic heroes and National Champions. The two competitions I attended were the British Championships which was held at the Echo Arena, Liverpool and the World Cup of Gymnastics which took place at the O2, London. It was an incredible experience sharing the gymnast’s space and being so close to the action, and I am very happy with the images I produced. For these competitions I partnered with The Couch Gymnast where my images have been published. Below are the links to the two galleries I produced. Also be sure to check out my new gallery on my website here.

In addition to gymnastics I have also been busy in the dance studio. As I said in my last post I headed to the Barbican to photograph the production gallery for Julie Cunningham & Company. It was great to see how this piece evolved from when I first saw it being performed in the Rambert studios. The lighting design by Richard Godin was really striking, making use of multiple Softboxes which produced a really flattering creamy light. Softboxes would usually be associated with still photography rather than stage lighting, but it was a lovely effect.

I also made my way to The Place to photograph at 2Faced Dance Company’s photocall for their work From Above. Coincidentally, this dance work also made use of large Lightboxes creating yet another beautiful lighting effect designed by James Mackenzie. I produced a full gallery for DanceTabs which you can find by clicking the link below.

Have a lovely long weekend!
