An Eventful Autumn

Hello,

I am back from an unplanned hiatus from writing my Blog, with a post sharing my eventful autumn. Over the past couple of months I have been working on various commissions, with long days of shooting and the subsequent hours of editing. My work has taken me to the dance studio, court side, pitch side, in nurseries, in gyms and in theatres.

Just as my previous post, I have continued to cover club photography duties for EFL Championship teams Leeds United and Middlesbrough FC. In addition to photographing directly for these clubs I have also attended other games covering for agency Pro Sports Images. Football photography has an incredibly fast workflow, with images being; selected, imported, captioned, edited, exported, uploaded within a few minutes of a goal being scored. I don’t often get to review my shots, but here are some images I’ve picked out to share with you.

Recently I have been working with sports content creators, Sportsbeat, part of the BeatMediaGroup. It has been great working with the team, and it has taken me to some really exciting and interesting events where I have had the chance to meet lots of sports celebrities! These images have accompanied local and national articles as well as official social channels.

I was really happy to have been asked to work with BBC Comic Relief covering a visit to a children’s play centre by ex Girls Aloud turned solo pop star, Nadine Coyle. This was a lovely job to cover, celebrating children’s right to play. Naturally, everyone in the building had a huge smile on their face!

As with last year, I was back photographing for the British Basketball League and Women’s British Basketball League. This included photographing headshots for the players in addition to action shots from games for use on the official social channels and website. Basketball is a great game to photograph, with it’s own set of challenges. The fast pace nature of the game can present some very physical, and therefore rewarding images.

In September I was in the Rambert studios photographing their Season Launch party. This was an opportunity for the company to invite guests and share with them exiting news and information on the new works that are on the horizon. Additionally, there was a unique and special performance by both Rambert and Rambert2.

Lastly, I joined up yet again with the Sadler’s Wells Young Associates as they presented their new works for the stage. Having worked with these young choreographers sporadically over the past 18 months it has been great to observe the development and evolution of everyone’s individual styles.

I am very lucky to be taking a holiday soon where I will have space to reflect on what has been a great year. So do look out for a special 2018 review which I will be publishing sometime before Christmas.

More soon,

Stephen

Hello,

I hope everyone had a great festive period and a happy new year! I was very lucky to spend my Christmas in Singapore with Vanessa and her family, but before heading off I worked on a couple of projects here in London.

At the start of December I was happy to rejoin the Sadler’s Wells Young Associates programme for their sharing at the Lilian Baylis Studio. 7 Young Associates were invited to create works for this sharing, each bringing their own style and approach to dance making to the stage. Having photographed and worked with some of the young choreographers during the Summer, it was great to return to see how the ideas had evolved.

Back at our home studio, Vanessa and I welcomed classical musician, Clifton Harrison. Clifton is an exceptional musician and a member of the Rambert Orchestra. We have been fortunate to work with him on many occasions. Clifton plays both the Viola and the Baroque, Viola d’Amore, and it was fantastic to have him on-set to capture both traditional style portraits in addition to some more creative ideas. Click here to see more from the shoot.
