2018 Year Review

Hello and welcome to my 2018 end of year review!

The past 12 months have been extremely fulfilling, presenting some exciting opportunities to cover a whole host of events. Below I have shared a number of my favourite images from each month, presenting a journey through my year.

January

The start of the year had me covering Rambert’s Season of New Choreography as well as a portrait session of musician Alex Paton. The new year also marked the first ever football game I covered, photographing Brentford vs Norwich City.

February

February provided more football fixtures, covering games on behalf of both the English Football League (EFL) and the Bradford Telegraph & Argus. During the midst of the ‘Beast from the East’ I was making the journey up to Birmingham to work with and photograph for the DanceXchange capturing images of their open dance classes for use online and on marketing materials.

March

March was the month of Gymnastics with the British Championships taking place in Liverpool as well as the World Cup of Gymnastics in Birmingham. March also provided an interesting opportunity to photograph the rock music band, Feeder at the Brixton Academy.

April

The Women’s Prize for Fiction announced their shortlisted finalists in April, which was then followed by a week of special events and talks hosted by writers, comedians and journalists. National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) had their London performances at Sadler’s Wells, performing Used to be Blonde choreographed by Sharon Eyal.

May

Returning to Sadler’s Wells I photographed Step Change Studios for their performance in the Lilian Baylis theatre which marked the UK's first inclusive Latin and Ballroom dance-inspired showcase. I joined Opera Holland Park to photograph their Prelude event in the grounds of Leighton House Museum, celebrating the start of the season with an intimate performance for special guests. Following on I worked with Arielle Smith, a London based choreographer for a photoshoot to promote her then upcoming show, Lots of Varied Expectations.

June

June marked the start of the Birmingham International Dance Festival, a biannual dance and arts festival taking place in various locations around the city. Having photographed the announcement of the finalists for the Women’s Prize for Fiction back in April, I rejoined the team to photograph the winners announcement and garden party. Kamila Shamsie took the top prize with her book, Home Fire. June also marked the London Festival of Architecture with which Siobhan Davies Studios in association with Theatrum Mundi hosted the event day, How does the City move you?

July

In the surprising heat of the British summer I headed to Garsington Opera to photograph images for their brochures and website/social media. Dancer and choreographer, Hemabharathy Palani who is based in India was in London to work on various research projects with a number of artists, one of which was Hetain Patel. July hosted an early pre-season game for Leeds United as they travelled south to play Southend United.

August

August gave way to yet more football with the Community Shield and the start of the English domestic leagues. I was also given the unique opportunity to photograph Patricia Okenwa and Geoff Holroyde’s wedding which took place in the beautiful Kew Gardens.

September

With the British Basketball League (BBL) season starting, I was sent out to photograph players both on and off the court for use on the official social channels. September marked the start of covering assignments on behalf of Sportsbeat, which presented opportunities photographing on the pitch at Wembley and for SportsAid. Breakin’ Convention hosted Pierre Rigal's Scandale at Sadler’s Wells which presented some eye-catching images.

October

Back at Sadler’s Wells to photograph the Young Associates as they worked on their pieces for the their upcoming Mixed Bill in the Lilian Baylis theatre. I continued photographing for the BBL making my way around the various teams of the league. Yet more events covered for Sportsbeat working with both Land Rover and Adidas for Lifestyle Sports.

November

November hosted yet some more events both with SportsAid as well as SAS Software in partnership with British Rowing. It meant meeting and photographing Greg Rutherford on two separate occasions in as many weeks! I also worked with BBC Children in Need photographing Nadine Coyle as she visited a children’s play centre.

December

Last event of the year before heading away on holiday I was photographing the Club Wembley Christmas party featuring a panel discussion with England international players as well as live entertainment.

I hope you enjoyed the tour through my past 12 months. Bring on 2019!!

See you in the New Year.
