Shooting on Crutches

Hello!

It has been an odd couple of weeks!

I was recently diagnosed with FAI, short for Femoroacetabular Impingement. This is basically when the ball and socket joint of the hip don't match up and sit perfectly. It causes a lot of pain, reduction of mobility, and ultimately it caused my inability to dance.
Naturally, the only viable option was to have surgery on my injured hip. Surgery is quite a big step and not an option you should take if provided with an alternative. However, my surgeon Prof. Fares Haddad, felt it was the best choice.
Since then, it’s all moved very quickly and before I could even say, ‘Femoroacetabular Impingement’, I am on the road to recovery!

Herbert Trabanino, the company’s physiotherapist came with me to the hospital and spoke with surgeon Prof. Fares Haddad about my rehabilitation and to calm any last minute nerves I may have had.

I am very lucky to be a dancer with Rambert because we are very well taken care of. We have a Physiotherapist, Masseur and Pilates instructor who all work closely with each other and with us to manage any injuries.
Should my injury have happened whilst I was working freelance, the outcome could have been very different. It is for certain that I would not be working with therapists who are as familiar with my body’s capabilities and limitations, enabling me to get the most out of my rehabilitation.
But I have a step-by-step plan with which all of Rambert’s treatment therapists will be called to action to get me back fighting fit in just 12 weeks!

On a different note, this week I had great fun shooting for London based independent choreographer, Mbulelo Ndabeni. Ex Rambert dancer, Ndabeni has been commissioned to create work for the upcoming performances at The Print Room, and asked me to come along to get some shots of his rehearsal process. Ndabeni was working with London based dancer Piedad Albarracin Seiquer, both their energy and power was great to capture, and I look forward to returning to the space next week to shoot them again.
Below are just a couple of the shots I captured last week.
